Brazil - GM cotton found growing illegally

In August 2004, the Brazilian Agriculture Ministry confirmed the illegal cultivation of GM cotton in 3 locations in Mato Grosso. This illegaly grown GM cotton was destroyed. In November, the Brazilian Government's biosafety commission, the CTNBio, first allowed conventional cotton seed to contain up to 1% GM contamination and then, on 18th March 2005, allowed commercial growing of Monsanto’s Bt cotton.
