Denmark - unauthorised genetically modified (Bt63) rice vermicelli from China

On 9 February the Danish authorities notified the EU’s RASFF* that it had found unauthorised gm Bt63 rice in vermicelli noodles from China. The products were already on sale to the public and had to be recalled. See RASFF No. 2012.0209

The first reported incident of Bt63 contamination in Europe was in 2006. Full details of the incident can be found here

*The Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) is used by the EU Member States, Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland and Switzerland. It was put in place to provide food and feed control authorities with a tool to exchange information about measures taken responding to serious risks detected in relation to food or feed.
