Sweden finds unauthorised genetically modified (Bt63) rice

On 27 June 2011, the Swedish authorities notified the EUs RASFF system that it had identified the unauthorised GM rice Bt63 in whole grain brown rice protein concentrate. Although thought to originate in China this concentrate was imported into Sweden from the USA.

*The Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) is used by the EU Member States, Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland and Switzerland. It was put in place to provide food and feed control authorities with a tool to exchange information about measures taken responding to serious risks detected in relation to food or feed.
