Route of contamination

Ghana - Rice LL601 found in food supplies

In September 2006, six commercial brands of rice were found to be contaminated with LLRICE601 after testing organised by Friends of the Earth Africa. Ghana was the fifth largest importer of US rice in 2004/05 and a key entry point of US rice into Africa.

In a joint press statement Friends of the Earth Africa and the African Center for Biosafety urged African countries to monitor US rice imports and to recall all shipments contaminated with the GM rice.
